Bacteriostatic water is sterile water that is specifically formulated to not cause bacterial inflammation. It contains a bacteriostatic preservative (commonly 0.9% benzyl alcohol) that prevents bacterial growth in multi-use vials. Dilute or dissolve medications for injection with bacteriostatic water for injection. Bacteriostatic water will NOT kill bacteria present in the solution, but it will prevent their growth, allowing for the reuse of the water for a limited amount of time (generally 28 days from opening). Ideal for mixing injectable medications such as peptides, hormones, vaccines, etc. in hospitals, clinics, and research laboratories.
